Lights

Are some lights created 
For the sole purpose 
Of being extinguished? 

If this is so, 
How does one know 
Which light to save 
And which to let go? 

And those that remain lit, 
Are they all meant to shine 
Or are some created to be dim? 

If dim, what purpose do they serve 
But to make other lights look good? 

And if that is true 
Then why should they 
Bother to shine at all? 

There’s got to be more to light than this.
