You thought it hurt to be alone
But to love someone you cannot hold…
Your fingers reach out to touch warm flesh
But all they get is cold screen.
You gaze into pixels shaped as their eyes.
You want to move forward into their embrace
And feel like you’ve arrived home,
But if they are home, you’re on another planet.
You thought it hurt to be alone
But this now hurts so much more…
You love the way you feel so close to them
When their voice is in your ear,
But when that is gone you have nothing.
No scent of them lingering,
No touch still tingling your skin,
No taste of them still sweetening your lips.
And you thought it hurt to be alone
But this is a level of pain far beyond…
It’s not like you haven’t been here before
But the journey from then to now
Has left you needing this so much more.
And that isn’t their fault but you blame them anyway
For not being there to complete your life
When it was always your job to fill the gaping holes.
And you thought it hurt to be alone.
