You make me laugh, quite a lot,
But it’s not like others haven’t before.
And you say things that are super sweet,
But I’ve heard sweet, heart melting, and more.

Pardon me for my cynicism,
For not falling head over heel,
But with all I’ve been through in the name of love
This is simply how I now feel.

Oh, you can call me beautiful all you want,
But I won’t trust the eye of the beholder.
And you can say I warm your world with my sun,
But your words will only make me colder.

Please do excuse me and my scepticism,
For not giving you my trust,
But with the crap I’ve heard along these lines before,
Doubting your words is a must.

It’s called self-preservation, I guess,
And I admit it’s driven by fear,
Because while lies aren’t easy to separate from truth,
I’m not ready to let you come near.

See, people easily say things they don’t mean
When words can’t prove themselves true.
So save your breath and don’t speak of your feelings.
If you want me to believe, just do.
